Growing Guide
Climate & Hardiness: Adaptable to warm, cooler, temperate to Mediterranean climates. Performs well across Australian regions. Tolerates wind, frost & coastal salt spray conditions well. Drought tolerant once established.
Light Requirements: Full sun to part shade but will thrive in full sun for optimal growth rate.
Soil Requirements: Adaptable to a wide range of soil types. Prefers well-draining soil but tolerates clay, sandy, and poor soils better than many conifers.
Water Management: Moderate water requirements during establishment phase (first 12–24 months). Water deeply and regularly to encourage rapid root establishment. Once established, drought tolerant with occasional supplementary watering during extended dry periods. Tolerates both wet and dry conditions better than Cupressus sempervirens.
Wind Tolerance: Good tolerance to coastal and wind-exposed positions. The vigorous growth habit and strong form-retention make this cultivar ideal for challenging windy sites. In extreme wind zones, provide structural support when young to establish strong root system.
Pest & Disease Management: Generally very hardy with few pest issues but can develop cypress canker over time.
Pruning & Maintenance: Prune to keep these neat and tidy and for more formal hedging applications. If you have more space or on a larger property you can leave these to grow in their natural form without pruning.
Spacing: Plant these every 1m for a faster forming hedge or screen or further apart for slower forming.
Mature Dimensions
Height: 10–15m (occasionally to 20m in exceptional conditions)
Width: 3-5m (conical form, wider than Cupressus sempervirens)
